It doesn’t matter how great your website looks or how easy it is to navigate, if it doesn’t rank well on search engines, you’re not going to get a lot of organic search traffic. That’s why Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is so important and should be a part of your digital marketing plan.
So, what is SEO?
This is a process of optimizing the structure of your website and its content to help search engines find your pages and highly rank your content. The goal is to have your website appear on the first search results page of popular search engines, such as Google and Bing.
Improving search rankings is as easy as 1, 2, 3!
SEO isn’t about “gaming the system,” but rather, it’s about using proven techniques that not only help your webpages rank higher, but also provide more value to your visitors.
- Start with content: Think about the type of information you want to convey and ensure that your website contains it. Sentences should be direct and easy to read. A minimum of 300 words is recommended. Each page should focus on a specific topic and determine which search terms people would use to find this topic. Then, ensure that text (copywriting) on your pages contains these keywords / key phrases.
- Use proper tags: Search engines need structure to determine what each item is on your webpage. By using H1 and H2 tags for headlines and subheads, search engines will be able to differentiate these items from the body copy of your webpage. Also, since search engines can’t see images, it’s important to add alternative text tags.
While these are our top three recommended areas of focus, there are many other opportunities to improve SEO, such as adding an SSL certificate and optimizing backlinks.
